Jim is an incredibly versatile composer, arranger and orchestrator. Whether he is composing classical chamber music cues for prime time television shows, or conducting orchestras alongside blokbuster pop/rock acts, his ability to work across multiple genres has kept him in very high demand.
In addition to the artists and bands listed, Jim has also worked with American Idol finalists Melinda Doolittle and Clark Beckham, New York Metropolitan Opera star Jeffrey Wells, saxophone virtuoso Branford Marsalis, ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro, christian music sensations Israel Houghton, Steven Curtis Chapman, Pastor Jentezen Franklin, and music legends Amy Grant and Bill Gaither.
Jim also conducts his own orchestra. Based in Nashville, The Jim Gray Orchestra comprises of many of Nashville’s first-call session musicians, as well as guest musicians from across the USA. These musicians have played on literally thousands of recordings across multiple genres, and are seasoned live performers. Jim and his orchestra performed at the 58th Presidential Inauguration, parts of which were seen by a worldwide television audience.
Over the last several years, Jim has produced and conducted six concerts with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, raising over $800’000 for the Nashville Rescue Mission, a non-profit organization that serves 2500 meals, and houses over 750 men, women and children daily, as well offering help with substance abuse and education. These concerts have featured prominent local artists, including Restless Heart, Chris Tomlin, Jason Crabb, Tracy Lawrence, Mo Pitney, Ruby Amanfu, Lorrie Morgan and many more.
