Matt Payne moved to Nashville 20 years ago, with a laser focus to make a living through making music. In the early days, this involved playing around town and touring as a working drummer, but would later evolve into touring as a drum technician for blockbuster rockers Kings of Leon, as well as for Max Weinberg; long time drummer for Bruce Springsteen. While the drum tech side of his profession lasted for seven years, Matt was quick to identify the emerging need for tracks in live music, and turned his attention to this growing market.
Nowadays, playback is a massive feature of live entertainment. As well as providing extra vocal and instrumentation to live acts, it also acts as a trigger for video and lighting in big productions. Matt’s company has provided live production assistance to major artists, including A Thousand Horses, Alicia Keys, Blake Shelton, Chris Tomlin, Dustin Lynch, Garth Brooks, Keith Urban, Kings of Leon, Little Big Town, Niall Horan, Nick Jonas, Reba McEntire, Sam Hunt, The Fray, Thomas Rhett, Train, Walk the Moon and Young the Giant.
Matt’s musical direction clients form an equally impressive list, including Abby Anderson, Anna Mae, AJ Mitchell, Billy Raffoul, Brett Eldredge, Canaan Smith, Chris Bandi, Davie, Florida Georgia Line, Jordan Davis, Josie Dunne, Kassi Ashton, Kelsea Ballerini, Kenton Bryant, Kylie Morgan, Lennon Stella, Levi Hummon, Lukas Graham, Luke Combs, Maren Morris, Mitchell Tenpenny, Renee Blair, Rodney Atkins, Runaway June, Ryan Hurd, Steve Moakler, Troy Cartwright and Walker Hayes.
