When Academy Award Winning Director and Producer Danny Boyle needed help coordinating 1000 drummers for the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony, he turned to Mike Dolbear. When Academy Award Winning Composer Hans Zimmer needed a Percussion Arranger for the Hans Zimmer Live shows in London, he did the same thing. The reason is simple. Over 35 years, Mike has worked tirelessly to build his reputation as the “Go-To” person in London for anything drum related. He has since branched out to consultancy for leading drum brands, record companies and music management agencies.
Mike’s exposure to the drum industry over the last three decades has helped him become one of the most respected experts in this field. As a top performer, teacher and educator, he has worked at the highest level. From West-End theatre to recording and tourings acts, Mike is known for his wealth of experience as a versatile and tasteful musician.
Mike’s passion for music education has taken him on a journey that includes thousands of studio teaching hours, but has also seen him organize clinics and masterclass tours with some of the best drummers in the world, including Thomas Lang, Steve Smith, Mark Guiliana and many more. He has also performed at numerous camps, workshops and masterclasses, and holds the Guiness World Record for the largest attended drum lesson.
He also has his sights set firmly on the future of British drumming, and to that end, organizes the annual “Young Drummer of the Year” competition, now entering it’s 16th year. Finalists of the competition have gone on to play in high profile bands including Skillet, Asking Alexandria, The Shires, Kim Wilde and The Vamps.
Continuing to raise the awareness of the drum industry, he has been a consultant and organizer for many drum shows, including the London Drum Show, and most recently the UK Drum Show - a brand new annual event hosted in the City of Manchester.
