There’s a reason why Richard Harris has been a valued part of the Peermusic songwriting team for over a decade. It’s the same reason why he continually sells out his annual songwriter’s camp in California. His discerning ear for music, songwriting style, and his passion for the industry he loves - honed over a lifetime of exposure to music, and 25 years working formally in the business. A passionate music lover, writer, musician and educator, Richard has mentored hundreds of writers, including a young Meghan Trainor - right up to the point of signing her first publishing deal.
Richard grew up surrounded by music. Drawing upon inspiration from his Father, Johnny Harris (Arranger, Composer and Music Director for Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Paul Anka, Engelbert Humperdinck and many more), Richard worked tirelessly as a writer, engineer and producer in his native London, and more recently in Los Angeles, following his relocation in 2002.
Richard’s relentless work ethic and uncompromising high standards, and his determination to penetrate the Los Angeles music clique has seen him contribute some noteworthy additions to his resume. As a published writer and producer, he has cuts with Katharine McPhee (Billboard Top 40), two #1 singles with “Idols South Africa” winner Elvis Blue, A Billboard Top 10 single with Anahi (EMI, Latin America Records), Top 10 singles with Boh Runga (Universal, New Zealand), Sabrina Starke (EMI, Holland), and the band Camera Can’t Lie (Atlantic Records, USA).
Richard has been creating a name for himself in the EDM world, with writing credits on the Billboard #1 hit “Lie To Me” with Cole Plante (Hollywood Records), iTunes Top 10 single “Young Love” with Felix Cartal, a Top 40 iTunes dance hit with Greg Cerrone (Ultra Records), and a another recent Billboard #1 with Swedish DJ, Stonebridge.
Richard’s co-writing credits include Grammy award winners, and gold, platinum and multi platinum writers including Lazonate Franklin, Justin Gray, Erika Nuri, Mark Hudson, Pam Sheyne, Victoria Shaw, Gary Burr, Keith Follese, Jeff Franzel and Boots Ottestad.
In television, his music has been featured on multiple major networks, including CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, BBC, History Channel, Lifetime, MTV, Discovery, TNT, and many others. As well as TV commercials for eBay and Vevo, Richard’s songs can be heard on shows including Empire, Nashville, One Tree Hill, Cold Case, The Closer, The Hills, and Joan of Arcadia, as well as movies including “This Means War” starring Reese Witherspoon and Tyler Perry’s “Single Moms Club”.
